Patient Charter

The purpose of the Patients’ Charter is to explain both your Rights and Responsibilities as a patient of The University of Hong Kong University Health Service @ Sassoon Road (UHSSR). Knowing and understanding your rights and responsibilities will make your relationship with health care providers a mutually beneficial one and enhance the effectiveness of the health care process.

 

Patients’ Rights

  1. Patients have the right to be informed about the treatment plans and give informed consent to their treatment.

  2. Patients have the right to know the name and rank of the staff providing services.

  3. The privacy of patients is considered and respected by all staff of the UHSSR.

  4. Patients have the right to access their own medical records.

  5. Patients and their carers or representatives have the right to make a complaint through channels provided for this purpose by the UHSSR, and to have any complaint dealt with promptly and fairly.​

 

Patients’ Responsibilities

  1. Patients have the responsibility to give their health care providers as much information as they can about their present health, past illnesses, any allergies and any other relevant details.

  2. Patients should follow the prescribed and agreed treatment plan, and conscientiously comply with the instructions given.

  3. Patients should not ask health care providers to provide incorrect information, receipts or certificates.

  4. Patients should ensure that all fees and charges for services are paid as required.

  5. Patients should keep appointments they have made, or notify the clinic as early as possible if they are unable to do so.
